Blind golf results: Charles Adams was the overall net winner (accounting for handicaps) in the United States Blind Golf Association's regional tournament at Lagoon Park Golf Course on Monday and was honored along with fellow divisional winners and runners-up at a luncheon on Tuesday at the course. A total of 14 golfers competed in the regional tournament, which served as one of four qualifiers for the national tournament in Tunica, Mississippi, in September. Twelve of the golfers remained through Tuesday afternoon to serve as special guests at the inaugural Blue-Gray Hall of Fame Charity Golf Classic organized by the Montgomery Lions Club, a civic organization dedicated to sight preservation. "We thought it was appropriate since our main charity is the prevention of blindness," said Blue-Gray president Durden Dean. The USBGA regional tournament is divided into three categories, based on a person's level of blindness. All competitors are legally blind and can compete in the B3 division, with the B2 division reserved for golfers with severely limited sight and B1 division for totally blind golfers. USBGA president Phil Blackwell won the B1 division with a 106, followed by Brad Eaton with a 117. "It's been a great venue for us," Blackwell said. "All of us have enjoyed it." Bruce Hooper shot an 81 to win the B2 division, followed by Kevin Edwards with a 100. Adams won the B3 division, shooting an 88. Harry Hester was runner-up with a 95. Adams' overall net score was one-under-par 71. |
